New Tours! Northern Exposure and Distillery Tours

While COVID-19 forced everyone into lockdown, it gave the team at Hop On Brewery Tours the chance to create a few new tours to offer our guests. With the growing interest in boutique spirits, especially gin, whisky and rum, more distilleries are opening their doors across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and we are excited to showcase these new venues on our updated offerings.

Northern Exposure – Brisbane’s Newest Brewery Tour

From August we will launch our Northern Exposure brewery tour. Joining the Best of Brisbane, Western Explorer and Southern Sessions options, this tour features breweries in Brisbane’s north side.

At the soon-to-open Happy Valley Brewing Co in Stafford we will start the day with some beer education, a tour of the brewery and some delicious samples courtesy of head brewer (and co-owner) Jarrett Bravo. From here it’s a short jaunt to visit Aether Brewing for a tasting paddle ranging from sours to stouts, then some lunch and fabulous Belgian-style beers at Fick Brewing Co. Co-owned and operated by the lovely Fabri (from Luxembourg) and Nadresha (a Brissie girl), these two have focused on creating their favourite Belgian beers to share with their customers. Finishing the day with a selection of brews at All Inn Brewing Co – where we may even catch some live music – it’s sure to be a day filled with variety. We can’t wait to run our first of these tours and look forward to having you join us!

Makers Tours, featuring coffee, spirits and more

Back on the rotation after being tabled due to COVID-19 are our Makers Tours, which originally launched in March, featuring distilleries, coffee roasters and local cafes around Southeast Queensland. The Brisbane Makers Tour, which has just re-started, starts with coffee roasting and a cupping (tasting) session at Fonzie Abbott before moving onto beer history and an in-depth explanation of the brewing process at Newstead Brewing Company. After working up an appetite, it’s time for lunch at Mongrel in Milton, serving delicious, local, in-season produce and Peruvian-fusion specials paired with a craft beer, before finishing with a digestif and explanation of the distilling process at Milton Rum Distillery. All tastings and lunch included for just $200pp; tours run with a minimum of four guests on Thursdays-Sundays.

Still on hold until the border crossing between Queensland and New South Wales becomes a bit easier is our Gold Coast Makers Tour, which begins on an avocado farm across the southern border at Red Earth Brewing in Cudgen where we share the secrets of brewing, discuss the ingredients and history and tuck into a few tasters. As hunger starts to creep in, it’s time for lunch at Pasture & Co, a small café in the Currumbin eco village which is all about seasonality and local offerings. Back up the freeway and it’s story time at Granddad Jack’s Distillery with Luke and Dave, who explain the name, the gin distilling process and their path to create Australia’s best whisky. We finish the day in a residential garage on the northern Gold Coast at Madocke Brewing, a nano-brewery run by a Belgian couple, for some delicious Belgian beers. All tasters and lunch included for only $200pp; tours run with a minimum of four guests on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Coming Soon – Distillery Tours

For those who aren’t able to drink and/or enjoy beer – well you really should be joining us for a beer education tour, shouldn’t you? –  we are in the process of putting together a Distillery Tour in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. We’re still working out the finer details, but keep your eyes peeled for the full distillery tour itineraries to be launched shortly.

If you haven’t traveled with us in a while, we would love to have you join us again for one of our newest tour offerings. We know Australians are limited in where they can and can’t travel at the moment, so why not take this opportunity to explore your home city or state? There are surprises around every corner, and we can’t wait to show them to you.

Cheers and beers,
Matt and Jos
